A Principal’s One Year Journey to Doubling Math Growth for ELs & Latino Students
The California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA) is holding their 19th Summer Institute for educational leaders to gather and get access to solutions and strategies for addressing the needs of students, with special emphasis on Latinx students.
As a CALSA partner, we invited principal Mónica Ruiz from Montgomery Elementary in Chula Vista to lead a session on one of the Summer Institute's themes, Leading Equity through Teaching and Learning. This will be an interactive session as she shares her experience implementing Levered math with her school's fourth graders.
Montgomery is a Title I school where 97% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch, and 62% are English Learners. In the first year of implementation, 4th grade CAASPP growth for Montgomery’s economically disadvantaged Latinx Students reached 190% of the state average, with growth for English Learners reaching 240% of the state average.
